About Israel...up-date

I wanted to put up something light for the weekend, but given what is happening in the UN Human Rights Council I don't feel much like lightness. A friend on Facebook said yesterday:

"There is a deadly, run-away truck rolling down the hills of our generation…Some refuse to learn from history, and stand on the sidewalks of our time and simply watch in a paralyzed, silent stupor."

After referring to the Christian Zionist movement that he is a big part of he wrote in a comment. "I'm thinkin' we step in front of the truck and shout "STOP!! YOU CANNOT PASS NOR GO ANY FURTHER!"

I am not a Christian Zionist but I am a Presbyterian who is pro Israel and I think Victor Styrsky's words should burn the conscience of every mainline Christian.

Col. Richard Kemp on the Goldstone Report

UP-Date:
A good article because it looks at the different countries and how they voted:
"
UN Human Wrongs Council it is by David Harris the Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee. The beginning:

"Some votes are eminently forgettable. Others are not.

Today's vote in the mistakenly-named UN Human Rights Council is the latter. Although denunciations of Israel have become commonplace in the Council, this vote provides a window into the souls of those 47 member states that currently belong to this Geneva-based body, and what we see will be long remembered."

There is also this: Goldstone Attacks UN Resolution On His Gaza War Report. The UN Human Rights Council used the condemnation of Israel in the Goldstone report but not its condemnation of Hamas.

When first given the name 'Velvel' from my rabbi, I did not like it one bit. "The wolf?!?" I howled.

Can't my Hebrew (yiddish) name be something like "The Eagle!" or "The Lion??" I begged.

"No...no...it is a good name" rabbi affirmed as he gently rocked back and forth smiling.

"It was the name of my best friend and it is a strong name!" he finished.

"Yea...and they eat sheep," I reminded him.

Six months later, I found myself at the once stately "Nevele" in the "Borscht Belt" of the Catskill Mountains. (Borscht Belt is a colloquial term for a number of summer resorts in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York that were a popular vacation spot for New York City Jews from the 1920s through the 1960s. Upscale hotels and resorts did not allow Jews to stay at their facililties during most of these years so the Jews built their own!) I was the only gentile Christian invited to speak at a 3-day Jewish summit called Limmud 2009 and had just heard a rabbi teach on "G-d's outline for your life is revealed in your name!"

The Spirt washed over me as I felt the following impression as clearly as any I have ever experienced:

"You are Velvel. For 1,700 years you have been as a ravishing wolf devouring my brethren, the Jews. You are Velvel. In these days of Moshiach, you are 'grazing with my lambs.' You are Velvel."

I found out much later, that the great Jewish sage, Maimonides taught that the wolf of Isaiah 65 is the gentile nations.

I am Velvel.

So that was you-I wondered now I am laughing.

That is a great story, now I will need to read Isaiah 65. Thanks

Viola,

Recently I saw the wonderful classic movie "The Devil and Daniel Webster," where a farmer was on trial for his soul in front of a jury comprised of the most miserable group of villains ... traitors, thieves and murderers, the lot of them. That jury reminds me of the UN human rights panel sitting in judgment on Israel.
