In one case the church I attended represented about 30% of the entire presbytery's numbers, if you included the other churches leaving it was at least 40%, so the presbytery was facing a significant loss of revenue and they were willing to engage in some fairly unsavory tactics in an attempt to get as much as they could. In the other, they simply wanted the property because it would be prime commercial land and was quite valuable.

It's been a while since I read the BOO, but if I remember right it is pretty clear that they believe that the PCUSA is at a minimum the only legitimate Presbyterian church, and it seems as though it at least hints at the attitude that the PCUSA is the only true church in existence. Even if I am remembering wrong, a case can be made that the PCUSA leadership functions in a way that suggests that they believe the PCUSA to be the only legitimate expression of either Presbyterianism or The Church.

I always thought that we were all (denominations) pretty much on the same team and that leaving one for another was not that big of a problem. Unfortunately our the current PCUSA leadership doesn't seem to be quite that generous.

I too love anonymous' analogy and wish that more folks would take that view.

At least now I'm watching from the outside, not still fighting.

Craig
Twin Cities MNCraighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17149415942585847184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560220615271337359.post-2986855807636918162015-12-03T07:04:24.400-08:002015-12-03T07:04:24.400-08:00I believe it is even worse than just a love of mon...I believe it is even worse than just a love of money. The apostates want to do as much harm as they can to ruin the ministry of those who leave a dead denomination out of faithfulness to Christ. This is diabolical and those who promote demanding blood money will be judged. May you hear the words Saul heard on the Damascus Road "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" Unless you have a particularly good reason for not giving your name and city, please don't comment without including them.Viola Larsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09146967423654966140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560220615271337359.post-49758759801351903892015-12-01T10:03:51.524-08:002015-12-01T10:03:51.524-08:00When I was a child, a long time ago, real estate t...When I was a child, a long time ago, real estate transactions were listed every week in the local weekly newspaper. The listings included seller, buyer, price. Every once in a while there would be a listing that said--Seller's name, buyer's name, $5.00, love and affection. These were cases where usually the parents gave a young couple a lot or piece of land to get started with. It's too bad that Presbyterians can't do that--let a church leave with "$5.00, love and affection."
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560220615271337359.post-22030928826760633132015-12-01T09:54:58.032-08:002015-12-01T09:54:58.032-08:00Amen!Amen!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
